FAQs Bikes

How involved am I in the design process?

Deeply. Each build is a co-creation. From selecting your engine and frame to choosing colors, finishes, design accents, stance, and ergonomics — every detail is shaped together to ensure your machine reflects not just your taste, but your story. The built is documented along the way.

Can I bring my own vintage bike to be transformed??

Yes — some of our most meaningful builds begin with bikes our members already own. We assess the condition and viability, then build from that shared foundation.

Can I choose between different builders or styles?

All bikes are designed and built in collaboration with our trusted network of vintage experts and fabricators. While each build is personalized, we curate the entire process to protect quality, consistency, and the soul of the Ikigai.SOS aesthetic

How long does a build take from start to finish?

Typically 4-5 months, depending on engine sourcing, complexity, and design decisions. This isn’t about speed — it’s about soul, and getting every detail right.

Where do the bikes come from?

We source original frames and engines — primarily Knucklehead, Panhead, and Shovelhead — through a trusted network of collectors, builders, and heritage suppliers. Each one is vetted for authenticity and rebuild potential.

Are the engines original or replicas?

Both. Some bikes are built around original engines; others use period-correct reproductions. We’ll guide you toward the best option for your desired riding style, reliability, and aesthetic.

Both. Some bikes are built around original engines; others use period-correct reproductions. We’ve partnered with a german specialist manufactory that produces handmade, OEM-style Knucklehead and Panhead engines — exact replicas of the original 1947–1954 castings. Our partner has years of knowledge, custom-built tooling, and 3D modeling. They create engines indistinguishable from originals, down to the casting numbers, finishes, and configuration options. You choose details like bolt kits, distributor voltage, and carburetor setup. Whether OEM-correct or built for performance, we’ll guide you toward the right setup for your style, spirit, and ride.

What’s included in the price?

The quoted $25,000–$60,000 range covers the complete process — from your first conversation and initial design discussion to the day your bike leaves the workshop. It includes all sourcing, restoration, customization, and hand-finishing.

Because each build is unique, we begin with an estimated range based on your vision and engine choice. A 50% depositis required to initiate the project — securing your slot and beginning sourcing. The remaining balance is finalized in stages, once the full design and component needs are defined.

Coordination of registration, licensing, and secure storage is available as an additional service — offered separately at cost with full transparency

Are these bikes street legal and rideable?

Absolutely — that’s the point. These bikes are designed to look incredible and ride even better. While they turn heads, they’re made to be ridden — with soul, style, and edge.

They’re rigid-frame builds — mechanical, minimal, and raw. Riding one isn’t effortless, and that’s part of the experience. You feel every shift, every vibration, every moment. — it’s a conversation with the machine.

Where possible, we use original and OEM parts, but we don’t hesitate to upgrade when it enhances reliability, safety, or usability. Each build complies with U.S. and California safety regulations, so you ride with both presence and peace of mind.

Be aware that these bikes are vintage, rigid-frame builds — mechanical, raw, and deliberately challenging. Many feature foot clutches and hand shifters, just like they did in the early days. This isn't for convenience. It’s for connection. You don’t simply sit on these machines — you ride them with your whole body.

You don’t need to be a racer, but you should feel confident on the road and open to something that demands more presence than modern bikes. If you’ve never ridden something like this before, we’ll guide you. It’s precisely the challenge that makes them unforgettable.

Where are the bikes stored and serviced?

We want your experience to be effortless. That’s why we offer secure storage options in California, with plans to expand into other key regions. We’re happy to give your bike a proper home between rides — and take care of all maintenance and logistics while it rests.

Prefer to keep your machine at home? We get it. In that case, we’ll coordinate transport and prep for any Ikigai.SOS journey you join — from pickup to return — so all you have to think about is the ride

Can I ride my bike outside of Ikigai.Sos trips?

Of course. Your machine is yours — we build it for your life, not just our roads. Whether it lives in your garage or on the road with us, it’s built to be ridden and remembered.

Our primary storage is in California, with plans to expand. Yes — if your bike is housed with us, you’re welcome to visit it by appointment. It’s yours, after all.
